With so much marginalisation and inequality in the world that we live in there has been need to form groups that can voice the concerns of a minority in the world setting.
Not only several such groups exists, several such concept or ideas came into being and are strong proponent of their beliefs and ideals.
While this is very much needed, most of the times these groups become so extremist in their approach that they start reverse of what they have faced and the majority is at the receiving end this time. This breeds hatred and defeats the whole purpose of any such movement.
Due to the largely patriarchal nature of our societies, women have been marginalised and have been mistreated for generations. So there emerged a concept of feminism with the aim to advocate for women's rights on the ground of equality of sexes.
According to wikipedia "Feminism is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women that are equal to those of men."
While this defines the concept and the goal of such movement, the thing over the years have evolved into a male bashing and hating the opposite sex thing.
Recently, I met a very young person who proudly identified as a feminist (Such clear line of thought at such a young age was endearing). While our conversation progressed she told me of her idea of feminism and I voiced my concerns of it being an opportunity to bash the male sex.
As our conversation grew, she made it abundantly clear that while the ideal and concept of feminism was supported, giving it back to the other sex was not ideal. I was impressed and it got me thinking that like all the movements/ ideas this if propagated in a right way with constructive criticism and of course not bowing down to the patriarchal system in place (a realty folks not something I concocted), it could go a long way in shaping the mentality and the thought process of the society at large and we can move towards gender equality in all spheres of life.
While it is sad that this even exists, thanks to the efforts of many voices through ages this concept is thriving and slowly but steadily progressing into the realm that it wants to reach.
My only request is like my young friend make it "Constructive feminism" rather than "eat your words men" kinds.
To all males this is not directed against us but the concept of superiority in us that needs to be checked and looked at a different perspective.
Disclaimer: These views are mine and personal based on my interactions and understanding of the concept from my daily life. This is by no means is an expert commentary as I am not a social anthropologist or person who studies this concept. Readers discretion advised.
