Twelve Classes of Rainbows


The Rainbow is perhaps most widely known atmospheric phenomenon. But did you know all the rainbows are not the same. In a recent publication to be found at: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm15/meetingapp.cgi/Paper/71291, the authors classify 12 classes of Rainbows.


This is why Rainbows don't look alike. Depending upon the height of the droplet of rain they contribute different shades to the rainbow. Look at the image below:
